At ProGuard Rail, we deliver specialist Personal Fall Protective Equipment (PFPE) inspection services for the UK rail sector, helping you comply with safety legislation and protect your workforce from the risks of working at height.
Our inspections cover all critical fall protection equipment used on-track, lineside, in depots, and during rail construction works — including safety harnesses, energy-absorbing lanyards, restraint systems, inertia reels, karabiners, and connectors.
We help you stay fully compliant with BS EN 365, PUWER, and Working at Height Regulations 2005, while supporting your Network Rail, RISQS, and Sentinel obligations.
All inspections are carried out by trained and competent persons, and equipment is tagged, documented, and certified following each inspection — with digital records provided for ease of audit and traceability.
In high-risk rail environments, fall protection equipment is often exposed to harsh weather, abrasion, contamination, and wear and tear. Regular inspections are not just a legal requirement — they’re a life-saving precaution.

Personal Fall Protective Equipment (PFPE) includes safety harnesses, lanyards, fall arrest blocks, karabiners, and other components used to protect rail workers from fall risks. PFPE is critical for ensuring safe working at height across the rail infrastructure.
Regular PFPE inspections are a legal requirement under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and ensure the integrity, functionality, and safety of fall protection equipment. Worn, damaged, or expired PFPE can lead to serious injury or fatality if not identified and removed from use.
All PFPE must be formally inspected every 6 months by a competent person—and more frequently if the equipment is used intensively or exposed to harsh conditions. Pre-use checks by users must also be carried out before each use.
ProGuard Rail inspects a wide range of PFPE, including full body harnesses, fall arrest and restraint lanyards, karabiners, anchor points, inertia reels, and rescue kits — all commonly used by operatives on rail worksites, embankments, structures, and depots.
Yes. All ProGuard Rail inspectors are competent, PTS-trained and have extensive experience in inspecting fall protection systems within the rail sector. We understand the operational risks and standards required on Network Rail and other infrastructure projects.
Absolutely. Following each inspection, we provide fully traceable reports, defect logs, pass/fail records, and re-inspection dates. We can also tag equipment with inspection status and integrate results into your existing asset tracking systems for compliance assurance.
